Cupping

Cupping is a traditional form of Chinese medicine that placing cups on skin and decreases the pressure using heat or a suction method. In some cases, herbal oil is applied on the skin to easily move the cups. Place the cups for 5-15 minutes on the skin and that purposely cause the red bruised skin and blood congestion for treatment. Although the skin’s color after removing the cups is scary, it does not hurt. Some patients’ skins are easily bruised but the cups can be adjusted to fit the patients’ conditions. Importantly, please inform the doctor if you feel any pain. Bamboo, tile, and glass that have different qualifications are the three common types of material used today. Bamboo cup which easily cracks and leaks has less suction whereas tile has good suction with smooth and unsharped edge but break easily. Glass cup that looks like a ball is transparent so the skin can be seen through. However, glass cup break easily. As stated earlier, cupping uses heat to reduce the pressure in the glass bottle (or other types of bottle) and other methods to give heat such as San Han, burning alcohol cotton and put through the glass cup before cupping; it is quite a safe method. Another method is boiling in water which normally used with bamboo tube. Regarding to other methods that may have flame inside the tube, be very careful not to burn or expose to the skin. Do not try cupping at home without supervision.                            


What types of symptoms cupping can treat?

Currently, cupping is very popular to not only cure pain but also treat other sickness such as Gastrointestinal Diseases, Respiratory Disease, particularly Chronic cough, Asthma, and Paralysis. Furthermore, it believes that the heat from the cups stimulates Qi energy which helps to remedy the patient’s mental whihc is one of the treatment of Depression.  

          

However, a person who has high fever, cold, convulsion, tumor, or has a possibility of these sympltom will bestrictly prohibitted to have the cupping treatment, as well as a three-month pregnant woman (and do not use cupping on the womb or the back waist area and the lumbar)
